The redundant appendix is then pulled back into the abdominal cavity to reduce the anastomosis back to the depth of the umbilicus. Closure of the wound is in the usual fashion.

The immediate post-op appearance. The patient's appendiceal catheter is flushed twice daily with 5 cc of normal saline. The antegrade enemas can be begun three days postoperatively. The 8 French feeding tube is removed two to three weeks postoperatively and daily cannulations are begun even if daily enemas are not required.
