The deep branch of the cystic artery was isolated. The deep branch runs between the gallbladder and gallbladder bed and can lead to troublesome bleeding if not identified initially (see biliary variation). It is important to confirm the nature of any tubular structure behind the gallbladder to avoid injuring a bile duct. Pulsation, origin and destination should be identified. Size greater than 3 mm should raise suspicion, and a cholangiogram should be performed before dividing such a structure.
