A 45-year-old man presented with a right groin bulge one year after bilateral open inguinal hernia repair by the plug and patch technique. The bulge was mostly below the inguinal ligament. The patient was taken to the operating room for laparoscopic repair of a femoral hernia. The inguinal region was visualized through an umbilical camera port. There was a femoral defect noted on the right side between the medial umbilical ligament and the femoral vessels.

The femoral canal lies medial to the femoral vein within the femoral sheath (see inguinal anatomy).

A femoral hernia may be repaired by closing the lower end of the femoral canal from below, suturing inguinal ligament to pectineus fascia or Pectineal ligament (see femoral hernia repair).
