Whipple for Pancreatic Carcinoma: 1

A 74-year-old man presented with recent onset of obstructive jaundice. There was no evidence of mass on CT. ERCP visualized no lesion at the ampulla, narrowing of the terminal common bile duct, and dilatation of the common duct and biliary radicals. Periampullary biopsies were normal. A stent was placed across the stenotic segment.

The patient was taken to the operating room for exploration and possible whipple procedure. A chevron incision was made and the rectus muscles isolated with a gauze sponge.
