A space was made between portal vein and head of pancreas from above, and between superior mesenteric vein and neck of pancreas from below. A finger was carefully inserted from below, keeping to the left to avoid injuring the small vein branches draining the pancreatic head into the right side of the portal vein. The neck was successfully isolated.
